The Moon is the most frequently observed celestial object in backyard telescopes. It is undeniably beautiful and mysterious, and is one of the constants of our lives that connects us to all other beings on our planet. Whoever we are, wherever we live or travel, we all look at the same moon.

It is difficult to look at the Moon through a telescope and see all the details due to its brightness. Our eyes are not ready to receive the light beam emanating from the eyepiece, and they 'stop', just as they would when you are exposed to the sun on a beautiful summer day. When we are in the sun, we often wear sunglasses. They help us relax our eyes, protect us from glare, and allow us to see things more clearly. When amateur astronomers observe the Moon, they use a lunar filter. A Celestron lunar filter offers similar advantages to sunglasses... our eye relaxes and opens to allow us to see more details. This is particularly important for observing the Moon when it is almost full.

The Celestron lunar filter simply screws under the barrel of most 31.75 mm eyepieces. It takes just a second or two to transform your normal eyepiece into one suitable for lunar observations. A lunar filter is also useful for observing Venus or bright terrestrial scenes. This filter is not suitable for solar observation.
